To SAG or not to SAG?

There comes a point in an actors "career", where they have to decide whether or not they want to stay non-union or go for union. I am at that point.

Non-union actors only get minimum wage $7.50 an hour/$60 a day
Union actors get $120/day

To become union with Sag, you have to pay the fee, which I now hear is up around $2400. Kind of hard for actors who have no jobs, because you never know when you'll be called for an acting job.

Then there's also a rumor that SAG is going to go on strike sometime this year. So, why spend $2400, and then not be able to work when union is on strike. Or, should I just sign up and take all the jobs I can, and then take a part-time during the downtime. Ugh!! So confusing.

I have to think it over. As of right now, I haven't had any jobs in the past two weeks, which makes me very anxious. I hope it picks up. I know shows are just coming back from hiatus, but I'm impatient. My mom tells me that all the time. So I just have to sit back and wait, and pray.
